1. Who we are

Fliqdev ("Fliq", "we", "us") is an online hiring marketplace that connects technology companies ("Clients") with software developers ("Candidates") in South Africa and abroad. We process personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

For any privacy question, request or complaint, contact us at hello@fliq.dev.

2. Information we collect

Account details: your name (or, for Candidates, the display name you choose), email address, password, account type (Candidate or Client) and the date you joined.

Candidate profile information: headline, current title, seniority, skills, languages, salary expectations, current location and willingness to relocate, availability date, work model preferences, education level, certificates and credentials, work history, a short bio, and your activity status (Active or Passive).

CV and documents: if you upload a CV, we process its contents to build your profile. You can edit or remove anything it filled in.

Contact details we hold for Candidates: mobile number and date of birth are collected but kept private. They are only visible to a Client once you and that Client have matched and an interview has been arranged or agreed.

Professional links: your GitHub profile may be connected or listed so Clients can review your public work after a match. We do not collect or display your LinkedIn profile.

Client information: company name, registration details where provided, company description, logo, office location, website and social links, and the roles you advertise.

Messages and activity: messages you send through Fliq, likes, matches, interview requests and schedules, notifications, and records of when these happened. We keep a dated record of likes, messages and interviews as evidence of an introduction (see our Terms).

Google account data: if you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google. We use it only to create your account, identify you and secure your sign-in. We do not read your email, contacts, files or any other Google services, and we do not transfer Google user data to third parties or use it for advertising.

Email delivery data: when we send you email (confirmations, match updates, approval notices, resets), our email provider processes your email address and delivery events such as delivery, bounce and unsubscribe clicks.

Technical data: IP address, browser type, device information and usage logs needed to operate and secure the service.

3. How we use your information

To operate the marketplace: create and secure accounts, show profiles, run matching and search, deliver messages and notifications, schedule interviews, and manage role pipelines.

To keep Candidates in control: Candidate identities stay anonymous until a mutual match, and private Candidates are only revealed with their engagement. Contact details stay hidden until an interview stage.

To communicate: onboarding and confirmation emails, match and message alerts, company approval notices, password resets and service updates. You can opt out of non-essential update emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in those emails; transactional emails about your account and matches still arrive.

To prevent abuse and enforce our Terms: detecting spam, fake profiles, unreported hires and attempts to take hiring off-platform.

To improve the service: aggregated analytics about how features are used.

4. Who we share it with

We do not sell personal information.

Companies and Candidates see only what the product is designed to show them, as described in section 2. Companies never see a Candidate’s email address, mobile number or date of birth before an interview stage.

Service providers who process data on our behalf under contract: our hosting and database provider (cloud infrastructure for this app), our email delivery provider, and our sign-in provider (Google).

Professional advisers or authorities where the law requires or permits it, for example to comply with a legal obligation or to enforce our Terms.

A successor entity if Fliq is ever merged or acquired, on the same protections described here.

5. Where your data lives and how long we keep it

Your data is stored on secured cloud infrastructure. Only authorised staff and the service providers above can access it, and access is limited to what they need to do their work.

We keep your account and profile data for as long as your account is open, so the marketplace works for you and other users.

Introduction records (likes, messages, interview history) are kept for at least 24 months after an introduction, because our Terms place fee obligations on Clients during that period.

If you delete your account, we remove or anonymise your profile. Records we must keep to enforce our Terms or meet legal duties are retained in a form no longer tied to an active profile.

6. Your rights

Under POPIA you may ask us to: confirm what personal information we hold about you; correct or update it; delete or destroy it; restrict its processing; or object to processing.

You may withdraw consent at any time for anything you consented to, without affecting what we lawfully did before.

Candidates can delete their account and data by asking us at hello@fliq.dev, or by using the delete option in account settings where available.

You may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa (inforegulator.org.za) if you are unhappy with how we handle your information. Please talk to us first so we can try to fix it.

We respond to verified requests within a reasonable time and at no charge in most cases.

7. Security

We use encryption in transit, access controls, and role-based permissions in our database so that private fields (such as Candidate contact details and pre-match information) can only be reached through the rules described here.

No system is perfectly secure. If something goes wrong, we will notify affected users and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

8. Cookies and similar technologies

We use essential cookies and browser storage (such as local storage) to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We do not use advertising cookies or sell behavioural data.

9. Children

Fliq is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

10. Cross-border processing

Our service providers may process data outside South Africa, including in the United States and Europe. Where they do, we rely on their contractual and security commitments to keep your information protected to the standard POPIA requires.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy and will tell you about material changes. Continued use of Fliq after a change means you accept the updated policy.
